Hello smellymaud - Welcome to the Sony Forums For this camera, considering that you have Windows 7 you may wish to adopt a different approach and pick up a standard USB video capture device as I am aware of a lot of compatibility issues with some of the older models when using a more modern operating system. There may be some loss in video quality but in many circumstances it is difficult to spot and a capture device hooks up to the regular audio and video outputs. Also, they are available for less than £20 online with devices such as this one on Amazon: As with any specific example that I mention, I would always advise you to shop around for the best deal and bear in mind that the device has to specifiy that it is compatible with Windows 7.

This page contains information about installing the latest Sony Digital8 DCR-TRV140 driver downloads using the Sony Driver Update Tool. Sony Digital8 DCR-TRV140 drivers are tiny programs that enable your Camcorder hardware to communicate with your operating system software.

Apart from that, depending upon whether you have a desktop PC or laptop, you could also buy a FireWire card which will allow you to use the iLink connection for transferring video (this will also have no loss of video quality). This is a little bit tricker than using a video capture card as it can involve opening up your computer and if you are using a laptop, you choices are even more limited. If this is something that you would consider, take a look for 'Windows 7 FireWire Cards' on Google. Thanks, Simon.

Hi, I ran multiple tries, checks, driver identification for ensuring that my Sony Handycam DCR TRV-38 is recognized by streaming media like Windows Encoder. Listi a4 s ramkoj i shtampom my car. This was a cake walk with my earlier Dell System on Windows XP. My latest laptop i.e. Dell V3000 series (OS - Windows 10) is not recognizing the handycam in streaming mode. But if I shift to photo-mode, the data-card is readable. But at no point in time does my device manager or streaming media software shows the Sony handycam credentials as recognized.

Please help as my main objective of buying new laptop was to work on streaming media using Windows-10. At this point, the objective of buying the laptop is lost. Hi Giridhar, Thanks for contacting the Microsoft Community.

I understand that the Sony Handycam DCR TRV-38 is not recognizing in streaming mode in Windows 10. I suggest you to refer the below link on Support for Handycam® Video Camera and then refer the section Announcements (Windows 10 information) Hope this information is helpful. I went through the links and also through the Sony Community site. Bottom line, this handycam is not supported at this point of time. I would have appreciated an input whether we can expect the compatible drivers anytime in the future or I should simply forget either my handycam or the Laptop with Windows 10 OS.
