Johnson Matthey Gold Serial Number Lookup
Johnson Matthey silver bullion bars have an individual serial number on them, but they only stamped serial numbers on bars that were sold to commodity exchanges. Silver bar is typically not considered an exchange product, but was minted as a retail product. Johnson Matthey did not keep a record of serial numbers when they manufactured bars in the past, so the only thing that a serial number means is that the bar is old. The Johnson Matthey insignia and bar dimensions allow professionals to verify authenticity.

'Just bought those today, figured you might like them' said the owner as I inquired about them. Upon further inspection I saw none of them had the typical serial number I'm used to seeing on JM, that area was just blank. They wanted $19 each which didn't seem too bad for a premium generic 1oz in a capsule. I ultimately passed as the store doesn't have have a metal analyzer and I was concerned about them being counterfeit. (I'm trying to convince them they need to get one ASAP) Anyone else have experience or thoughts on JM missing serial numbers?
The capsules made me even more suspect as I saw it as a testing deterrent. They did weigh out, but I know that doesn't mean anything these days. Thanks for your thoughts.
